INTERVIEW WITH "THE NATIONAL"
Hala is interviewed by Philippa Kennedy of The National, an English newspaper from the Abu Dhabi Media Company.
From the interview:
"Gorani admits she misses the thrill of on-the-road reporting but she says anchoring a live programme is a different kind of excitement that may yet have her heading for the airport again...
When she’s not on screen, she might be found taking dance classes or with the aforementioned beagle. “He isn’t a normal dog,” she says. “He’s got issues about being friendly. I thought at first he was shy because he didn’t know me but he stayed this way and I think that’s kind of cool. He doesn’t like long walks. After 10minutes he starts not wanting to walk any more.”

ARABIAN WOMAN'S 30 AWESOME WOMEN
Each year the magazine, "Arabian Woman" names 30 Awesome Women.
This year Hala is named as a "Hero":
"CNN reporter and anchor Hala Gorani is not fearless – but that hasn’t stopped her from risking her life to bring news to the public. Early this year, she presented ‘The Middle East Challenge’, a special hour-long programme that took an insightful and thought-provoking look into the problems and promise facing the Middle East.
As one of CNN’s most experienced international journalists, she has reported from every country in the Middle East, including KSA, Iraq, Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian territories. She was instrumental in CNN International’s coverage of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in 2006, for which CNN won an Edward R Murrow Award. In 2005, she was one of the first television reporters on the ground in Amman, Jordan, after al Qaeda suicide bombers attacked two hotels. Earlier that year, she also covered the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza."
Be sure and download the PDF for the complete article and pictures.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON
A few posts ago, HaBa brought up that someone had put in Hala's Wiki article ITME was ceasing production as of February 2009. This someone cited to no source.
I seriously doubt it.
Schams Elwazer is hosting the March episode - at the usual times.

I've been asked before if I have any old clips which could be posted. Yes, I have old video- but a lot was originally recorded on VCR tape and the transfers aren't always that great. Here is an old promo for Biz News. I will try to put together some decent clips from the "good old" London days.

UPDATE TO THE CNN BIO PAGE
Hala's CNN Bio page was updated today, informing readers about International Desk and the end of her stint as host of Inside the Middle East:
"She is the host of International Desk, the new weekday program that brings viewers into the heart of the largest newsgathering operation in the world, immersing them in the latest stories of the day.
Gorani formerly hosted ‘Inside the Middle East’, the monthly show featuring stories on the most important social, political and cultural issues in the region."
I don't usually editorialize but...although Inside the Middle East may continue for awhile (remember D360?)Ms. Gorani's hosting talent will be greatly missed. It remains to be seen if she will still cover stories in the field. Hopefully, her talents won't be wasted walking to and fro in a flashy studio interacting with screens versus doing real journalism.
And to ITME from this former viewer - RIP.

INTERNATIONAL DESK
Starting next week, a new show is listed in the "Hala" YWT time slot -"International Desk". The Astro TV Guide shows the above (vintage) picture of Hala with this description of the show: "International Desk" brings viewers into the heart of the largest news gathering operation in the world. Viewers don't come here to "watch" the news; they come here to be immersed in it, to feel the rush of being the first to know what's happening as stories break, and to leave knowing they've gotten the best and latest information available.
Hopefully, this means the "International Desk" anchor is Hala. Stay tuned.

THE MIDDLE EAST CHALLENGE
Hala will be hosting an hour long special this weekend: The Middle East Challenge. According to CNNAsiaPacific: "Gorani travels through the Middle East to take the pulse of the world's most dynamic and volatile region. In this hour-long program, no subject is off-limits and no area is out-of-bounds, as CNN takes an insightful and thought-provoking look into the problems and promise facing the Middle East. Gorani meets world leaders and speaks with world-class scholars. She investigates the underlying and often-unspoken issues creating roadblocks to economic and political progress. She also examines whether hopes of a stronger relationship with the United States and its new administration will bear fruit, or whether old wounds will prevent any real strengthening from taking hold."
